Speaking after the FG policy launch of Hope for A Lost Generation, YFG Policy Officer Peter Kiernan McCarthy stated that "Unemployment figures show that we now have 422,00 people signing on the live register, with a shocking 87,100 (October 2009) of them being young people under the age of 25, with one in three young males now unemployed.
"It is clear from these figures that young people are the main victims of the economic catastrophe that has occurred in this country as a result of Fianna Fail’s failed economic policies. They seem perfectly happy that young people are the worst hit by the economic catastrophe the country finds itself in and to leave them to pick up the cost of trebling the public debt.
"This country previously had to experience the horror of mass emigration, when an entire young vibrant generation had to leave their country behind." This ambitious policy sets out clear achievable targets to reduce the number of under 25’s on the dole queues by one-third.

Youth Unemployment almost DOUBLES under FF in just 1 year
Young Fine Gael (YFG) have today warned that mass emigration could again become a reality for our young people, in light of the recent CSO Live Register figures for December, released last week.
YFG President Barry Walsh has said: "The latest CSO figures reveal that the number of young people under the age of 25 on the Dole has almost doubled in the space of a year, increasing from 33,000 to 62,000 during 2008 – a rise of 87%. These figures are terrifying. However, the Government does not even seem to know that there is a problem.
